Year 12 Brighton Summer Trip 2013
Last week the year 12s took an enjoyable trip to the sunny seaside that is Brighton. There were some unexpected events to say the least and yet another late departure due to a student (Oh Mickey!) But this didn't stop the fun that took place on the day.
The journey to Brighton was of course full of tweets about the slow drivers and the hatred question 'are we there yet?'. People complaining that they were 'tired' and 'need the toilet' just made the journey that bit more entertaining. I got quite a lot of abuse for filming everyone and many empty threats were thrown my way (they were rubbish, better luck next time guys) and even a few swear words! But all was forgotten when we saw the sea for the first time and the entrance to Brighton pier...
As we stepped off the coach; the warm air and the cool breeze hit us at the same time, making it a pleasant day. After the two hour coach trip the only thing on everyone's mind was food. All I could hear was 'Look Harvester!' and 'No, I want fish and chips!' or 'Ooh doughnuts!' (I eventually joined in as I was craving an ice cream). We walked along Brighton pier taking funny photos in the cut out faces and wasting our money on the amusement games. There were a few rides and smaller roller coasters at the end of the pier but no one was that bothered about going on them. We walked back to the beach and sat down on our deckchairs to soak up some sun (well, clouds really).
All afternoon was spent dodging seagull poo and trying to hide our food. I was unsuccessful in this. After a nice stroll to the fish and chip shop, I was looking forward to eating the quite small for £5 dinner that was in my little cardboard tray. Then out of nowhere a swarm of seagulls came and just attacked me! They stole my fish and then turned to my friend's chips for seconds! Greedy buggers, they were massive! (And I promise I'm not kidding, I have witnesses!). So after the realisation that I had no more fish, I went back to the shop and told them what had happened. They gave me another fish but I had to pay £2 for it! Gutted.
After recovering from the seagull incident, the rest of the afternoon was spent shopping and eating (two of my favourite things to do all at once!). We walked all around Brighton town and shopped for about two hours! It was great! After our spree it was time to head back to the coach and say bye bye Brighton. We'd had a good day but now it was time to go our separate ways. To be honest I didn't mind going home as I was knackered (and already exceptionally late for work) and needed to sit down. The coach home was much quieter as many people were tired and in need of a nap. The day had many high points and also some low points (don't make me mention the seagulls again). So overall a top day out for a top year group and all that is left to say is: beware of the Brighton birds.
