We Are One
By Anonymous
I don’t believe in God
But I am a religious person.
No, I’m not a Satanist
And no, I don’t go to church
But I don’t need to, because even so,
Christianity taught me to love and accept
Islam taught me work lots and love more
Judaism taught me to never give up
Sikhism taught me respect
And still
Atheism taught me to read
Hinduism taught me to believe
Buddhism taught me to breathe
And Taoism taught me there is bad and there’s good and that’s okay
So why hate and berate
When you can
Elate and relate
Because someone out there
Loves you
Maybe your mum, dad, sister, brother, lover, high school class mate, that homeless guy down the road, or the person who got life from your two pound a month
Or
Me
Don’t live in the dark when your hand is on the light switch
You just gotta
Take the leap
Because you might fly
And
If you fall
Then you know you’re a man
Because you
Believe
Breathe
Read
Work
Accept
Love
And respect
And you try
And sure, you’re at the bottom of a cliff
With your spine in two
But don’t tell me the wind in your face
Didn’t mean something to you
Don’t tell me you learnt no hope when
You flew
Through the air
And if you turn around you’ll find
There’s more of us down here than
There are on top of that cliff
And down here you fit it
You might be a boy or girl
Gay or straight
Black or white
Wrong or right
But either way
We love you
I love you
And if you love me too
I will be here for you
When you need me
In sickness and in health
In poorness or in wealth
In life or in death because
In this messed up, sick, twisted world
In philosophy, psychology, ecology, biology,
We are one.
Because God might have given us love
But religion can give us life.
