Year 11's Sporting Elite Receive Full Colours
The sports ‘colours system’ was introduced many years ago, by the head of PE at the time, Mr M Leadon. The system recognises sporting excellence in each individual sport that the school offers, which at the time it was established, was limited. Since its introduction, the colours system has expanded to incorporate the new range of sports that have been introduced at Chingford Foundation School, such as Volleyball. At the annual ‘Sports Assembly’ the PE department nominate and award students for each sport with what is known as ‘half colours’, most recognisable as the yellow and black badges on student’s blazers, as shown below. Many students achieve these ‘half colours’ in a wide range of sports, attempting to beat the record, set in 2010 by Alex Gordon, who achieved 6 half colours (displayed below). Along side the half colours, students have opportunity to achieve what is known as ‘full colours’, or the stripped tie worn by Year 11 students. Any student who has received 2 or more half colours over their time at Chingford Foundation is eligible for a sports tie, which is awarded by the PE department for not only sporting excellence, but showing key sporting values and behaviour.
