Glee Star's Tragic Death - Cory Monteith

Sunday 14th June was a clearly a sad day for many ‘gleeks’ all over the world. As you may know, the show’s star, Cory Monteith, was found dead in a hotel room in Canada, after it was discovered that he had missed his checkout time. The 31-year-old has been known to have struggled with drug addiction in the past, which drove him to rehab in March. Unfortunately, after his autopsy and toxicology tests were carried out, it was confirmed that Monteith had died from an accidental overdose of heroin and alcohol.

It was clear to see that the star’s death had a huge effect on the whole world, just by looking at anybody’s twitter feed. Celebrities tweeting about the quickly trending topic included Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian, who were clearly saddened by the event. One person noticeably affected by the news was Cory’s girlfriend and glee co-star Lea Michelle, who has said to have been left ‘devastated’. She was due to marry the actor in 2 weeks’ time, which makes the loss even more tragic.

I can’t relate to the loss many dedicated gleeks must be dealing with; even though I‘m not a watcher of the show, waking up to the news on Sunday morning left me extremely saddened. I can’t imagine the pain that Cory’s family and co-stars will be dealing with at this time.
