Christmas Decorations Christmas 2013
Everywhere you go from the middle of November to the first week in January, are clustered with shiny bubals, tinsel and synchronized flashing lights. But do they really get us into the Christmas spirit? Or are we just brainwashing our minds into suddenly feeling festive or do they really give us that jolt of Christmas spirit we lack whilst shopping.
Do you ever go out and hear people constantly moaning “IT’S NOT EVEN DECEMBER YET”, what is it about putting up decorations early that rubs older people the wrong way? Perhaps it’s the thought of becoming skint after Christmas, the resurfacing of a bad Christmas memory, haggling for the last bag of potatoes or cranberry sauce they believe they so desperately need but goes unopened every year on the Christmas table. We all know how cruel those last minute food shoppers are or even the image of a full spread of food uneaten because you aunty feels the need to hold a visual service before anyone can eat anything and she knows everyone is starving which makes it much easier for us to conform to her torture and your there thinking God when will it end we should have pulled out.
Or could it be that decorations bring about a constant reminder that some people will find it harder to provide for themselves or even their children over the holidays. They have to bear the brunt of keeping everyone happy on Christmas day with all the extras that they have to sit in the cold rapped in layers of coats and blankets to keep warm.
I’ve always wounded if anyone see the decorations and actually gets people into the Christmas spirit without thinking time to put ourselves I debt again, well I asked an mother with two children want she thought and she said “I love the fact that the decorations are up they make me feel better when I’m out because it reminds me of all the lovely warm memories I’ve had as a child and the tradition we have, and that my family is the single most important thing to have in your life”. I asked many other people and the answer was nearly the same. No matter what it seemed that everyone was looking forward to the holidays that day so maybe it just depends on people’s moods it seems no matter what people’s situation is they will still put aside any troubles to enjoy Christmas day.
Personally, I don’t mind the decorations I mean what is the worst thing they can do? Nothing. They just hang there till someone is ready to take them down again. Also I don’t understand why people moan about the decorations going up to early it’s an on-going tradition and there is nothing we can do about it. Don’t get me wrong I understand that some of the decorations can be placed in clumsy places which can be annoying as they could trip you up or the fact the shelves in the stores are swapped around to accommodate the decorations and you barely find any of the items you need but I’m sure people can live with it. It only takes a day to find out where everything as moved to anyway and although people hate to do this but you can always ask an assistant don’t worry its Christmas time they want a bounce therefore they will be nice to you, you get what you need and your effectively helping someone it’s a win-win, and if you really can’t handle and think service is poor shop online problem solved.
